2011 sees the return of the popular Crystal Palace Triathlon, organised by Crystal Palace Triathletes (CPT). The race comprises a 750m swim in the 50m pool at the National Sports Centre, cycle nine laps of a closed circuit within the park (closed to traffic!) then run two laps around the park, finishing in the renowned athletics stadium.

Competitors for the full Sprint event must be 17 or over on 31 December 2011. Entries are also open for the CPT junior triathlon, to be held on the same day (after the adult race).

Our race was voted British Triathlon Event of the Year 2010 and we expect to fill quickly. If this happens we will open a waiting list which will operate on a first come, first served basis.

Estimated swim times

When completing the online entry form, you will be asked for an estimated swim time. It’s important that you are as accurate as possible as we set swimmers off according to their swim times.

The fastest swimmers complete the distance in around 10 minutes, the average time is between 17-18 minutes and the slowest about 30 minutes. We don’t mind how long you take but the race runs much more smoothly if everyone is swimming with others of a similar ability and for this reason we will be unable to accommodate requests to change start times.

Novice training days

This year we are offering a choice of two novice training days (17 April and 15 May) for those (aged 17+) who are taking part in their first triathlon or just want to learn more. Each training day starts at 08:30 and finishes by 13:30 and will be led by Jon Horsman our L3 BTF Coach.

The format for the training day is:

  • Bike session / ride the course, descending and climbing
  • Kit layout / transition / BTF race rules
  • Run session / run the course, learn how to pace your run
  • Swim session in 50m pool
  • Overcoming your nerves and preparing for Race Day with sports psychologist Dr Victor Thompson
  • De-brief
  • To get a place on one of the two training days select the appropriate entry type from the choices on the entry form above.
